1. Allow the test cassette, specimen and/or controls to cool to room temperature (15-30°C) before testing. Allow the pouch to reach room temperature before opening. Remove the test cassette from the sealed pouch and use as soon as possible. Best results are obtained when testing is performed within one hour.
2. Place the test cassette on a clean and flat surface. Hold the pipette vertically and add 2 drops of serum or plasma to the sample area. Then add 1 drop of buffer at a time. Start the timer.
3. For venipuncture of whole blood samples Hold the pipette vertically and add 3 drops of whole blood to the sample area, then add 1 drop of buffer and start the timer.
4. For fingerstick whole blood specimens, use a capillary tube: Fill the capillary tube and add approximately 75 µl of fingerstick whole blood specimen to the specimen area of the test cassette. Then add 1 drop of buffer and start the timer.
5. Wait until the colored line(s) appear. The test result should be available after 10 minutes.
The Syphilis/HIV Combo Rapid Test Cassette (Whole Blood/Serum/Plasma) is a qualitative, membrane-based immunoassay for the detection of antibodies to HIV 1.2 and syphilis in whole blood, serum or plasma. The membrane is pre-coated with recombinant HIV antigens in the HIV region and recombinant syphilis antigens in the SYP region. During the test, the whole blood, serum or plasma sample reacts with coated particles and syphilis antigen-coated particles in the test cassette. The mixture then migrates chromatographically on the membrane by capillary action to the HIV antigen line above and reacts with recombinant HIV antigen and syphilis antigen on the membrane in the HIV and SYP line region. If the sample contains antibodies to HIV 1 and/or HIV 2 and/or syphilis, colored lines will appear in the HIV and/or SYP line region, indicating a positive result. If the sample does not contain antibodies to HIV 1 and/or HIV 2 and/or syphilis, colored lines will appear in the HIV and/or SYP line region, indicating a negative result.
