The hCG pregnancy midstream test is an immunochromatographic rapid test for the qualitative detection of chorionic gonadotropin in urine to determine pregnancy. The test uses two lines to display the results. The test uses a combination of antibodies including hCG monoclonal antibodies to selectively detect high levels of hCG. The control line consists of goat polyclonal antibodies and colloidal gold particles. The test is performed by immersing the midstream in a urine sample and observing the formation of colored lines. The sample migrates capillary along the membrane by reacting with the colored conjugate. Positive samples react with the anti-HCG antibody-specific colored conjugate and form a colored line in the test area on the membrane. The absence of this colored line indicates a negative result. As a process control, a colored line always appears in the control area to indicate that enough sample has been poured and the membrane has been properly soaked.
